Streamlining global finance operations for a fast-growing Norwegian company

THE CHALLENGE

A fast-growing Norwegian SaaS company had reached a turning point. With finance operations stretched across six countries, multiple systems and numerous local providers, they needed more than a replacement for their outdated accounting system. They needed a unified, scalable model for growth.

From Fragmentation to Framework

Following rapid growth over a short period of time, our client faced challenges with a finance function spread across multiple countries, relying on different systems and local providers, which created complexity, duplication and limited visibility. Coordination was time-consuming, processes were inconsistent and scaling globally felt risky and resource-intensive. 

By combining Amesto AccountHouse’s deep local expertise in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland with Amesto Global’s international extensive experience in the UK, US, and Germany, we created a single point-of-contact for the client in each region and formed a joint delivery team on the ground. This unified approach gave the client both the local insights they needed, and the global coordination required to scale efficiently. 

Redesigning the Global Finance Function

Our engagement began with a comprehensive review of the company’s existing operations. We mapped current workflows, identified bottlenecks and built a project roadmap for what would come to be a cross-border rollout of our unified business solutions. The priority was to remove complexity and reduce the company’s reliance on local systems and fragmented vendors—without disrupting day-to-day business or placing undue pressure on the company to drive these efforts themselves. 

Central to the transformation was Xledger, rolled out as the ERP across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the UK, Germany and the United States. This involved mapping a consistent chart of accounts based on the HQ entity in Norway, building standardized processes across borders and ensuring local statutory requirements would still be met. In markets where Xledger is not (yet) compliant for purposes of tax reporting, we implemented shadow ledgers, keeping Xledger as the source of truth while still meeting local requirements. For example, we supported the mapping of Xledger’s global structure to the statutory accounting standards (HgB) in Germany to ensure a seamless transfer of accounting data into the local statutory system for full compliance. 

In parallel, we implemented a cloud-based payroll workflow tailored for the company’s international team, giving the client one centralized platform to manage the payroll workflows and approvals across all jurisdictions. Our GDPR compliant portal allowed for seamless communication between our local payroll teams and the country managers. This enabled the company to onboard strategic hires in new markets, such as Switzerland, without the need to establish costly local entities, saving both time and resources.

Through this integrated model, the client gained a single, unified finance function that combines Amesto AccountHouse’s Nordic expertise with Amesto Global’s international experience, creating a framework designed for efficiency, accuracy and scalability.

Today, the company’s finance function operates through a centralized global platform that brings together standardized processes, coordinated delivery and a significantly reduced administrative burden. What was once a fragmented, country-by-country approach has been replaced with a clear operating rhythm that ensures consistency, accuracy and transparency across all jurisdictions. 

The scope of ongoing services now covers the full finance and operations cycle, including: 

  • Day-to-day accounting and transaction management 
  • Month-end close and management reporting for key stakeholder visibility 
  • Local statutory compliance filings, such as VAT, Sales Tax, corporate income tax coordination and audit support 
  • Payroll processing and HR administration, ensuring employees are paid on time and in compliance with local labor requirements 

By consolidating these functions under a single model, the company has reduced duplication, eliminated manual handoffs and freed up its finance team from routine coordination with multiple local vendors. Instead, internal resources can now focus on supporting commercial objectives, driving financial insights and partnering with the business on growth initiatives. 

Most importantly, the company now has a scalable blueprint for future expansion. The new framework can be easily duplicated for upcoming acquisitions or new market entries with minimal lead time and incremental cost.
